Monday marked the official opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park in California. I was fortunate enough to be able to go on this 2nd opening day – the first being May 31st when they began hosting groups in four hour reservation blocks. Some things inside the land are the same while others have changed due to the land being officially open now. Disney has done a great job of posting things like “Know Before You Go” videos to help guests navigate their way to a happy adventure to Batuu.
We wrote up some tips for the reservation period (May 31st – June 23rd), but now we are in a whole new world with Galaxy’s Edge officially open for anyone/everyone who visits Disneyland Park. My experience with the “Boarding Pass” system was great. I wasn’t able to join a Boarding Group until I officially entered the Park (I tried to join from the Parking Structure and then again from the tram, but was unsuccessful both times), but I was able to join right after entering the Park. The Disneyland app sent me a push notification about 30 minutes later that my Boarding Group could now enter Galaxy’s Edge. Make sure you turn on your notifications/sound so that you don’t miss your 2 hour window to enter the land. Remember that once you are in the land you can stay for however long you want to stay.
Steps For Success
Step 1 – Ensure you have the latest version of the Disneyland app and have your tickets or annual passes linked to the account. I have my annual pass along with my two kids annual passes linked to my account.
Step 2 – Launch the official Disneyland app and look for “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Status and Access” on your homescreen.
Step 3 – Use “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Status and Access” screen to check on land status. You might be free to just walk into Batuu if it says that the land is open, or you might have to join a boarding group (a type of virtual queue).
Step 4 – You will receive push notifications (if enabled) when your group is called, and you can view your boarding group’s status in the app.
Information for guests not using the Disneyland App:
If you don’t have a mobile device you can get a spot in a boarding group at one of five fastpass locations in Disneyland Park: Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Matterhorn area. Guest relations kiosks in Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Main Street Tip Board, and at the Frontierland: Galaxy’s Edge Entrance. The locations where you can check for your boarding group are located at: Guest relations kiosks in Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Main Street Tip Board, and the Frontierland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land entrance.
What about visiting Oga’s Cantina or Savi’s Workshop?
Below is a picture/screenshot rundown of how I made my reservation for Oga’s Cantina on Monday along with a picture of the information pamphlet that Disneyland gave me when I parked yesterday. The reservations open up at 7 a.m. and you don’t need to be in the park to make your reservation – you can make it from anywhere on your connected device (website or through the Disneyland app)
On Monday, Savi’s Workshop reservations were gone by approximately 7:17 a.m., so if that is a priority for you – make sure you don’t forget to hop on right at 7 a.m. (or maybe even try getting on a few minutes before 7 a.m.). Oga’s Cantina reservations go quickly too, but not as quickly as Savi’s. Here are the websites where you can make your reservations:
At Oga’s you are allowed to line up to get into the Cantina up to 15 minutes before your reservation time (for example, my reservation time was at 5:35, but I got in line at 5:20). Your reservation time is only to get into the line. I was in line for about 25 minutes, so keep that in mind. Also, there isn’t a lot of shade, so be prepared for that as best as possible.
Dining in Galaxy’s Edge
Two words – mobile order! Remember to utilize this great feature to save yourself precious time! Visit our Instagram page to see pictures and reviews of several items from Galaxy’s Edge (we’ve eaten at Ronto Roasters, Kat Saka’s Kettle, Oga’s Cantina, and Docking Bay 7). So far we’ve enjoyed the Ronto Wrap, the popcorn mix from Kat Saka’s, the Smoked Kaadu Ribs, the Braised Shaak Roast, Moof Juice, Blue Milk, the Yub Nub cocktail, and the Meiloorun Juice. Again, visit our Instagram feed for more pictures and info about each of these items.
Smugglers Run
I used the Single Rider to save time, but not everyone will have that option. I noticed that there was a small surge in the line wait time when my Boarding Group entered the land. But after about 20 minutes the wait time went back down again. Disney has been VERY efficient with the whole Smuggler’s Run line queue. The line was only above 60 minutes when I first entered the land. By the time I got in the queue (both times) it was at 45 minutes for the general queue. The single rider line took about 20 minutes the first time and about 10 minutes the second time. The cast member handing out ride assignments (pilot, gunner, or engineer) told us (single riders) that we would most likely be engineers with a small chance of being a gunner. That being said, the pilot in my second group gave me his pilot assignment and decided to be a gunner instead. I honestly have enjoyed all 3 jobs. Engineer kept me the busiest (in terms of constantly pushing buttons), left pilot forced me to pay attention the most, right pilot was perhaps the least interesting (however, you DO get to pull the hyperspace lever which WAS COOL!), and the gunner jobs are just plain fun.
Droid Depot
We visited Droid Depot during the reservation blocks and absolutely loved it. We, legitimately, have played with our family droid every day since we got it. Unlike Savi’s Workshop and Oga’s Cantina, you don’t need to make a reservation to go to Droid Depot. I went over to Droid Depot 4 separate times during my 6 hours in Galaxy’s Edge the other afternoon/evening and it had a short line every time. During the reservation blocks it was a lot more crowded than the other day. That might change, but it wasn’t as crowded as before.
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
Dok-Ondar’s is a personal favorite, in terms of places to shop in Galaxy’s Edge. No offense to Hondo on Smuggler’s Run, but I am more impressed with how cool Dok-Ondar looks! There is a lot to look at in Dok Ondar’s. One of the items that we were able to get during the reservation period were Kyber Crystals, but they informed me on Monday that they are no longer selling the Kyber Crystals individually. In fact, they only had blue and red available. The only way you could get one of those Kyber Crystals for $12.99 was to buy a Holocron (Sith or Jedi) for $50. That was a mild disappointment. Hopefully they go back to selling the individual Kyber Crystals soon.
Hope these tips can help you – even if it’s just a little – as you prepare for your trip Galaxy’s Edge. Below are a few other posts I’ve written about Galaxy’s Edge.
