A leaked memo from Disneyland President Ken Potrock to cast members detailing an upcoming food event in Disney California Adventure park sent shockwaves through the Disneyland Resort fan base last week. MiceChat was the first website to break the story and added more information this week by announcing that they had heard that the event will be called “A Touch of Disney.” Yesterday, the Workers United Local 50 group on Facebook put out more information about the event.
What Does This Mean?
There are a few important things to glean from this memo. Food and Beverage operations will expand into Cars Land, Pacific Wharf, Pixar Pier, and Grizzly Peak which means that most, if not all, of DCA (minus Avengers Campus) will be open during this food event. The second part is that the ticketed event will include Buena Vista Street operations. What does this mean for the future of Buena Vista Street as an extension of Downtown Disney? For now, it only raises the possibility that Buena Vista Street’s days as an extension of Downtown Disney might be numbered. It could also mean that Buena Vista Street will only be open during non-food event times for guests visiting Downtown Disney. We expect Disney to give more information about this soon.
For furloughed cast members this is great news. Over 1,000 cast members are in the process of being called back to work for the DCA food event. There will be a lot of things open in DCA for them to operate. We speculate that there will be multiple restaurant locations open to serve guests along with the six marketplace food booths that we remember from past DCA food events.
When will we know more?
Disney hasn’t formally announced anything about this food event to the public. Everything we know has come from leaked memos, union updates, and MiceChat. Hopefully Disney will announce ticketing prices, dates, and more in the near future. For now, we can continue to enjoy Buena Vista Street and the joys that it brings guests.
