Virtual Queue and Boarding Group Information

Two of the premiere attractions at the Disneyland Resort parks are Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure! To experience these attractions, guests are required to join a virtual queue, only accessible via the Disneyland mobile app. Distribution times for virtual queue enrollment are daily, 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM. In order to give as many guests as possible the opportunity to ride these attractions, each guest can enter the virtual queue no more than one time per day.

Virtual Queue and Boarding Group Breakdown

At 7:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time guests can attempt to join a boarding group for one of these two rides. If you have a park hopper ticket, you’ll try to get a boarding group for whichever park is assigned as your starting park. The 7 a.m. virtual queue (boarding group) attempt can be done from anywhere in the world – you don’t have to be at the Disneyland Resort or in the parks to try.

If you miss out at 7 a.m. for a boarding group, you have a second opportunity to join a boarding group at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. This second opportunity MUST be done from inside one of the two parks. It is possible to ride both attractions in the same day if you have a park hopper ticket, but it’s not easy to do so.

Here’s an example of how to do both attractions in the same day. Let’s say that you start in Disneyland with a park hopper ticket – at 7:00 a.m. you must secure a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance to have a chance to ride both. Not only do you have to secure a boarding group, but you also have to ride the attraction before 12:00 p.m. If you have gone on the attraction (Rise of the Resistance or Web Slingers) before that second boarding group opportunity at 12:00 p.m. then you can try for the other attraction.

On July 2nd, 2021 I had a park hopper ticket which started in Disneyland. I secured a Rise of the Resistance boarding group and rode the attraction by 9:30 a.m. So at 12:00 p.m. I was able to try for a Web Slingers boarding group in Disney California Adventure. I was successful in securing a boarding pass for that attraction and was able to ride both in the same day.

If you have not ridden the attraction by 12:00 p.m. then you cannot attempt for the other attraction unless you go to guest services and have them remove the boarding group from your Disneyland account/system. Then at 12:00 p.m. you can try for the other boarding group. If you are forced to choose between the two attractions, I recommend Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (but that’s just my personal opinion/choice).

As a final reminder, you can only ride each attraction one time on a given day.

Step by Step (How To)

  • Run a speed test on your phone at speedtest.net with both WiFi on and WiFi off – see which connection is faster. If I’m at home at 7:00 a.m. I’ve found that my WiFi is faster than my data connection. At the Disneyland Resort my data has typically been faster than connecting to the Disneyland WiFi. We also recommend checking to make sure you have the most up to date version of the Disneyland app.

  • Link all tickets in your party/group into each other’s apps. This ensures that you will all board at the same time. If you are all using your phones to try for a boarding group it also means more people are trying. Whoever gets through first and secures the boarding group wins! Everyone else will get an error message, but have no fear, the boarding group will show up in your Disneyland app under boarding groups.
  • At 6:59:59 swipe down to refresh (see video linked below for a quick tutorial – the video focuses on Web Slingers, but the principles are the same for both attractions).
  • Don’t hesitate! When you see the “Join” button click it as fast as you can. The tickets for the day are already linked in the app , so you shouldn’t pause to read/check them (pausing for a moment means you’ll miss out).
  • I use my Apple Watch to count down to the exact moment at 7:00 a.m. (6:59:59) and do so at 12:00 for that opportunity.
I’ve been successful getting a Rise of the Resistance boarding group 8 out of 10 attempts. Web Slingers was tougher at first (I was 1 out of my first 4 tries), but overall I’m 4 out of 7 trying for that.
  • On my home WiFi at 7:00 a.m. I am 10 out of 11 (Yes, I did miss out on Rise of the Resistance from my home WiFi once – I was shocked!)
  • I list that I’ve failed, so that you don’t get too discouraged if you don’t get a boarding group – even a seasoned Disney pro who knows all the tricks and knows the process back and forth has missed out. Boarding Group luck really can come down to how fast your phone is working on a particular day. Other people I know have never missed (they have top of the line Verizon service and the latest iPhone 12 pro – as a point of reference). So phone speed and service provider can make a difference!
  • Good luck and let us know how you did!
