According to the Orange County Register, another casualty of 2020 will be the annual Disneyland Resort Candy Canes. The Register states “Disneyland’s half-century tradition of candy cane making will be broken this Christmas season by the coronavirus pandemic, shattering the peppermint hearts of die-hard fans who wait each year in pre-dawn lines for a chance to snag one of the hand-made holiday treats. The $15 candy canes hand-pulled by Disneyland cast members won’t be sold this year at Trolley Treats when the candy shop reopens on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.”
It’s not surprising to hear this news, though it can be considered disappointing to some. The annual Disneyland Resort Candy Cane tradition started in 1968. This year would have been the 52nd consecutive year these hand-made candy canes were offered at the Disneyland Resort, but alas, it is not to be. Guests will have to wait, presumably, until winter of 2021 to get their hands on the 18-inch-long candy canes. If you have never experienced them you will have to wait a year, but you should put it on your Disneyland bucket list of things to try at least one time.
Disneyland Candy Cane fans know that in order to score one of these coveted treats you have to arrive before park opening to get a good enough spot in line to get one of the limited amount available for each day (typically 150). The candy canes have been rotating day to day between Disneyland park and Disney California Adventura park over the past several years. Usually guests are given a wristband and return later in the day to pick up their hand-made treat. With such a limited quantity each day they have become quite the score for some fans. Hopefully, by next year guests will be able to indulge in this peppermint, sweet treats again!
