Take Two: Disneyland Reopening Plans Announced

Disneyland has announced their reopening plans. The proposed reopening date will be April 30th. Disney previously announced a reopening plan for July 17th. They were not given clearance or guidelines for reopening by the state of California though, so they were forced to cancel those original reopening plans. The longest closure in Disneyland’s 65-year history will officially be coming to an end. Guests can begin preparing for their next visit to the Happiest Place on Earth. The parks will open with limited capacity (more information to come about that).

The Disneyland Resort parks began their extended closure on Saturday, March 14th, 2020 as a precaution against the health pandemic sweeping the globe. Walt Disney World in Florida has been fully opened (with capacity restrictions and health measures in place) since July 11th and 15th of 2020. Now, the Disneyland Resort will join the Walt Disney Resort in being fully opened (with similar restrictions).

Disney has the following warning about Covid-19 on the official Disneyland website:

β€œAn inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.”

It looked like the theme parks might reopen in October, but Governor Newsom issued theme park reopening guidelines that made it very difficult for theme parks to reopen. He adjusted those reopening guidelines last week which will allow theme parks to reopen in the red tier at 15% capacity. The annual passholder program was cancelled, so guests will have to purchase single day tickets for the time being. Stay tuned for more info – this is a developing story!
