The Latest Disneyland Resort News

In a mild surprise last week (though maybe not such a surprise with rising COVID-19 rates), Disneyland announced that they had no choice but to delay their planned reopening of the theme parks at the Disneyland Resort. The official Disneyland website says “Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park remain closed and will reopen at a later date, pending state and local government approvals.”

Downtown Disney, however, is currently scheduled to stay on track with their plans to reopen on July 9th. Yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued more serious restrictions in response to a rise in people testing positive with COVID-19. This brought rumors online that Downtown Disney would delay their reopening, but People published an article stating that Downtown Disney is still on track to open next week. People states “While Newsom’s latest order prohibits the indoor operation of restaurants, movie theaters and family entertainment establishments in Orange County, Downtown Disney will still reopen on July 9 as previously announced with new plans to have only outdoor seating at its various eateries.” Additionally, Disney has published a list of new procedures that will be in place to help safeguard, as much as possible, guests against contracting COVID-19. Below is the information from the Disneyland website.

For Cast Members, Operating Participant employees and Guests, there are 6 key things to expect when visiting the Downtown Disney District:

  • Limited parking and clearly defined entrances to the Downtown Disney District
  • Temperature screenings prior to entry
  • Face coverings are required
  • Physical distancing measures, including physically-distanced queues and seating, and physical barriers at select locations
  • Temporary operations modifications, including reduced hours at select locations and the suspension of entertainment offerings and high-touch interactive areas
  • An increased focus on cleaning and sanitation, including the addition of hand-washing stations and hand sanitizers in key areas
